The Sports Development Foundation (SDF) recently handed over two multi-purpose courts to the Manchester High School during a brief ceremony at the institution.
The courts are designed to host basketball, netball, volleyball, tennis and other sports.
Principal Jasford Gabriel said the new courts will enhance the sports programme of the school, as well as other institutions in the area that need to use the facility.
He said the SDF's foresight in investing in these facilities ensures that all the students and the wider communities are afforded the opportunity to develop their talent.

There seems to be no stopping the Manchester High second-former who cruised through the spelling of R-E-CO-N-N-O-I-T-R-E to pull away from 10-year-old Trevonae Williams of Mt St Joseph Prep School, who up to that point had matched him toe to toe. The 41 other spellers who had earlier lined up in competition at the Mandeville Parish Church had all steadily been eliminated after impressive performances in what has become somewhat of an expectation in Manchester.

The newly established Canada is launching an alumni organization to specifically address the needs of “at-risk” students at Manchester High School in Mandeville, Jamaica. The “at risks” students are those who are potential drop-outs with low attendance and low performance, due mainly to the poor economic situation of their family and NOT their academic abilities. The goals of this Canada-wide Manchester High School Past Students’ organization are as follows:

MHS Alumni Football Team

Carey James
Manchester High's Alumni team performed very well in the recent Alumni Tournament in Lauderhill, Florida. Our first game we lost 1-0 to KC, then tied ST GEORGES 0-0. The third game we won 1-0 over Calabar advancing to the quarterfinals where we beat Wolmers 1-0. We advanced to the semi-finals losing on penalties to eventual champions Ruseas. I've been told Calabar will be hosting a similar tournament in December, also in South Florida and hopefully we will also enter a competitive team. My club team trains every Thursday at Pine Island Park in Plantation, Florida at 8.30pm, and any MHS alumni that wants to train/run in preparation for that tournament and others is welcome. Just text me, Carey James (305-951-5498) around 7, at which time I'll know if the field is open (re: weather). Please pass on to others.

Genius at Work

IN A world that measures the confidence of a young man by how proudly he can promote his own interests, how skilfully he can walk with his pants below his waist, or how many girls he can acquire in a night, 17-year-old Darren Neill Gooden is an inspiring enigma.
Anyone who glimpses Gooden, as he walks home from school with his head bowed, a huge knapsack on his back, and an enormous French dictionary in his hand, could easily guess that the boy has a 'liking' for his books; however, few would imagine that he has already been accepted to study at some of America's finest universities.
Gooden, an upper-sixth-form student at Manchester High School in Mandeville, has been awarded a full scholarship to study mathematics and computer sciences at Yale University - one of the oldest and most prestigious Ivy League universities in the United States. The scholarship, which covers tuition, board, books and personal supplies, is valued at approximately US$54,602 (J$4,804,976) per year!

Manchester on Target for the 4x800M Female Title
Sunday, 12 April 2009 02:56

Manchester High Schoolblew everyone away in 2008 at the Penn Relays in the 4x800M boys when they ran away with the Championship of America title for the middle distance thriller on the final day of the meet. They will not be able to defend their title this year because some of the team members are no longer in school.
However, the girl’s team is on fire this year after losing only one (the first one) 4x800M Relay this year and copping the first MILO Junior Grand Prix in the process. The girl’s team includes Kimberley Brown, Neisha Morris, Charlene Brown and Natoya Goule on anchor.
Manchester will compete in the 4x100M, 4x400M and the 4x800M in the girl’s section and the 4x100M in the boys section. All the girl’s team are expected to do well even if they do not all win gold. There is hope that the boys will give a good showing, as well. The boy’s team will be led by Brandon Tomlinson who copped the 100M title in the boys section of the inaugural MILO Junior Grand Prix.
