It was 8:30 p.m. when I arrived. Outside, none of the clan was present. I nervously entered the restaurant, since I didn’t know whether I’d walk right into a somewhat familiar face and unintentionally embarrass myself somehow by calling the wrong name. Inside, I immediately recognized a familiar face at the bar. Even though he was not from our group, I quickly joined him and ordered a drink while we chatted. I waited with bated breath to see who the first entrant would be.
About a half-hour went by before what I considered a familiar face entered. Since I wasn’t sure, I politely and quietly asked “are you Maurice?” Yes it sure was Maurice Scafe with his wife Novlette who travelled from outside Boston. We happily greeted each other and chatted until Pauline Hudson from the class of ’86, walked in with hubby Cecil. Sure enough we immediately recognized and greeted each other. Moments later, the state of Virginia permitted Rohan Heath to show up with his usual pleasant smile; and the greetings and hugs continued.
We later moved over to our especially reserved lounge area where we became quite cozy. The great Raymond Lawrence (Larro) then joined the group and refreshed his memory with the faces he saw. Moments later, Keith Golding, followed by Wayne Campbell (Dunky) arrived, then Norwane Evans all the way from Pennsylvania. Afterwards to tell you the truth, I somehow lost track, as people continued to trek in; some singly, some in pairs and so on (pardon me if I forget the exact order).
