The Manchester High School Alumni’s inaugural activity for this year, 2009 was a “Pool Lyme” planned and executed by the executive body of the Manchester High School Past Students Association (MHSPSA) Kingston Tertiary Chapter. This social was held at the University of the West Indies swimming pool on February 7, 2009. The event was scheduled to run in the time slot 4:00pm to 7:00pm but the time was later extended to 8:00pm.
With a crowd of approximately 85 alumni, sumptuous refreshments and popular music the perfect atmosphere was created for the alumni to reminiscence on their “Chesta” days.
For the most part, the environment was friendly and relaxing with people getting familiar with those who they did not quite remember or did not know at all and after a while the familiars inevitably gathered in their old groups, and chatted about their fun times at “Chesta”.
As the evening progressed, the crowd grew larger, however; unfortunately we had to adhere to the cut off point and at 8pm gathered together once more to sing the school song, “Sic Luceat Lux” before departing to our individual homes.
In attendance were alumni currently enrolled at the University of the West Indies, the University of Technology, MICO and Shortwood Teachers’ Colleges, Northern Caribbean University Kingston campus and we were also pleased to see 2008 4×100m gold medalist and alumni, Nesta Carter at the social.
The social was a success and I strongly believe it was the best way to start the activities for the year. If you missed it, we missed you too! However, you have the opportunity to attend our upcoming event, an Alumni Dinner on April18, 2009. Just check your e-mails, notice board and ask other alumni. Keep in touch and don’t ever forget “MHS-Home of the BRILLIANT, the BRAVE and the BEST!!!!!”
