MHS Alumni Football Team

MHS Soccer Team (Florida)
Manchester High's Alumni team performed very well in the recent Alumni Tournament in Lauderhill, Florida. Our first game we lost 1-0 to KC, then tied ST GEORGES 0-0. The third game we won 1-0 over Calabar advancing to the quarterfinals where we beat Wolmers 1-0. We advanced to the semi-finals losing on penalties to eventual champions Ruseas. I've been told Calabar will be hosting a similar tournament in December, also in South Florida and hopefully we will also enter a competitive team. My club team trains every Thursday at Pine Island Park in Plantation, Florida at 8.30pm, and any MHS alumni that wants to train/run in preparation for that tournament and others is welcome. Just text me, Carey James (305-951-5498) around 7, at which time I'll know if the field is open (re: weather). Please pass on to others.

Reunion: Grad Class 1963 and Sixth form 1966

E-mail Print PDF
Grad class 1964/65 at the reunion in Mandeville Wow, what a four days! These are some of the words/ phrases that came to my mind over the period: marvelous, exciting, nostagia, uplifting, spiritual, ennergising, bouyant, thankfulness (for parents and teachers), we didn't turn out too badly, new commitment and purpose, timely, we just picked up where we left off, story telling is a wonderful skill, 'successful' has many faces and definitions.

Thanks to those from our class who made it to Mandeville for one or all of the events. The bad weather (it rained for most of the visit) did not dampen spirits. Photo shows those who attended the banquet on Saturday evening. Others in attendance at the various functions were - Carol Reid (church); Vivia Swaby, Osric Stephenson, and Evan Duggan (meet and greet/mix and mingle), Afeef Lazarus (banquet). In all, 22 classmates were present. Friends from other years included - Garth Bolton, Elaine Swaby, Jennifer Mattar, Shirley Deans. Teachers in attendance at the banquet - Mr Goodin, Mrs. Hall-Birthwright.

We missed those of you who were not able to be here. Gerry, your ears must have been ringing. We called your name over and over.

But even as we celebrated we had in our thoughts parents of the following classmates who are not doing well: Gene Marshall (mother), Pat Hall (mother), Sandra Smith (father). We also learned of Gerry's health concerns and the health concerns of Canute McDaniel who is scheduled to have surgery this week. Let's remember them all in our prayers/ meditations. Send them positive energy.

'Sic luceat lux'. The light of MHS continues to shine.

MHS Reunion '25 - Recollection

It was 8:30 p.m. when I arrived.  Outside, none of the clan was present.  I nervously entered the restaurant, since I didn’t know whether I’d walk right into a somewhat familiar face and unintentionally embarrass myself somehow by calling the wrong name.  Inside, I immediately recognized a familiar face at the bar.  Even though he was not from our group, I quickly joined him and ordered a drink while we chatted.  I waited with bated breath to see who the first entrant would be.

About a half-hour went by before what I considered a familiar face entered.  Since I wasn’t sure, I politely and quietly asked “are you Maurice?”   Yes it sure was Maurice Scafe with his wife Novlette who travelled from outside Boston.  We happily greeted each other and chatted until Pauline Hudson from the class of ’86, walked in with hubby Cecil.  Sure enough we immediately recognized and greeted each other.  Moments later, the state of Virginia permitted Rohan Heath to show up with his usual pleasant smile; and the greetings and hugs continued.
